Soon there will be a brand new sign in front of the building, but Lisa Lee Smith and Matthew Sullivan are not new kids on the block, fresh out of law school. In fact, between the two of them, they have about 30 years of legal experience representing clients in the midlands.
Matt and Lisa have previously worked for separate law firms in Lexington, and have decided to pool their resources to work in their hometown. They are vested in Chapin. They have children in Chapin schools, and they are involved in activities in the Chapin community.
Lisa emphasizes “we are a new firm, but we are not new attorneys.” Matt added, “We founded this new firm because we wanted to invest professionally in our own community. We look forward to serving our neighbor’s legal needs.” Their practice areas include residential and commercial real estate, mediation, probate administration, estate planning (wills and powers of attorney), family law, and defense litigation.
Lisa Smith is a graduate of Irmo High School and has been an attorney for almost 20 years. She graduated from Clemson University and the USC School of Law. She is past president of the Chapin Sunrise Rotary Club and is very involved in that group. Lisa’s husband, Pauley, teaches at Lake Murray Elementary School and their children attend Chapin High School and Chapin Middle School. She is a past president of the Lexington County Bar Association, which has over 200 members, and is very involved in the South Carolina Bar Association. Her practice areas are residential and commercial real estate, probate administration, estate planning, and defense litigation in state and federal courts. Lisa is also a certified Circuit Court mediator and arbitrator.
Matthew Sullivan is a graduate of Winthrop University, a cum laude graduate of the USC School of law, and an adjunct professor of family law at Midlands Tech who has practiced in the areas of real estate, family law and civil defense litigation for more than 10 years. His wife, Shelby, is an early interventionist who works with pre-school aged children in their homes in the greater Chapin community. He is an NCAA baseball umpire and his children attend Chapin High School and Lake Murray Elementary School. His practice areas are residential and commercial real estate and family law. He soon will be obtaining his certification in family law mediation.
Matt and Lisa are excited to be setting up shop at home across the street from Chapin High School, sharing the building with Bailey’s Sweet Shoppe. Matt said, “With the growth in the greater Chapin area, we believe that this is an ideal time to open a firm that is focused on our practice areas.” Lisa feels the firm will be a good fit in Chapin because, “we care deeply about people, quality work and integrity.”
