At its executive meeting today, the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) unveiled for the first time the proposed region realignment and expansion to five classifications for high school sports beginning in 2016-17.
The expansion to five classifications is a first for high school sports in South Carolina, though the realignment process takes place regularly every two years based on new schools and enrollment numbers, among other factors.
The list is preliminary; schools may now appeal if they choose. A final version will be voted on by the SCHSL on Sept. 17.
Under the proposed alignment, Mid-Carolina would be in Region 3-3A, along with Broome, Chapman, Clinton, Newberry and Woodruff.
Chapin would be in Region 5-4A along with A.C. Flora, Dreher, Lower Richland and Orangeburg-Wilkinson.
Irmo and Dutch Fork would bin Region 5-5A along with Blythewood, Lexington, River Bluff, Spring Valley and White Knoll.
