Town Council meets Jan. 5 to vote on budgets, water and sewer rates

Chapin Town Council to meet January 5, install newly elected council members

The Chapin Town Council will hold its regular council meeting on Tuesday, January 5 at 7 pm in the Council Chambers at Chapin Town Hall, located at 157 NW Columbia Avenue, Chapin SC 29036.

Chapin Municipal Judge Gary Reinhart will administer the oath of office to Kay Hollis and Mike Clonts. Council will also elect a Mayor Pro Tempore.

Other agenda items include second and final reading of the 2016 municipal budgets, including an $8 increase in water use rates, first reading of an ordinance to increase sewer use rates by $5 per month , and first reading of a proposed ordinance to change the regular council meeting date, from the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. to the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. The agenda also includes a report on Turkey Point and Fairhaven repairs and litigation.

In addition, Council will recognize outgoing member Vivian “Bibi” Atkins who has served on the council for 16 years. Atkins chose not to seek re-election in 2015.

There will be a reception prior to the council meeting at 6 pm in the Community Room at Town Hall to honor Atkins and officially welcome Clonts to the council. The public is invited to attend, and light refreshments will be served.
