Another fantastic Beta Club national convention in the books! Four CHS students traveled to New Orleans, LA June 27-30 to attend Beta Club’s 36th National Convention. Over 5,000 Senior Beta students attended from all over the nation, and this convention also became the first to include international students from China and Hungary.
Our students participated in on-site competitions, had the chance to see the Top Ten state winner participants in group and special talent, and joined in on the campaign and election process of the students who will serve as national secretary, vice-president and president. This was the first year that Beta held a Masquerade Ball as a scholarship fundraiser as well, and our students enjoyed the program and events that Beta offered all week.
We also spent time sight-seeing in New Orleans. We visited Bourbon Street, and toured the French Market downtown. We stayed at the beautiful Hilton Riverside, which is built adjoining the Riverwalk Outlets and the New Orleans Convention Center.
Sara Fuller placed 5th in the nation for Spelling Division 1 and Clay Bellinger place in the 7th in the nation for Science Division 1. This is a remarkable long-time tradition of winnings for CHS. This is the 11th consecutive Beta competition in which Chapin High has participated and won.
